ABOUT ME

I am 25 years old and was born and bred in London. I am from a Punjabi background but my family is from Kenya - my mum was born there. As a result, I have been to Kenya six times, to visit family and explore the country. Every single time I have gone has been an eye opener for me, presenting to me a new part of the country and a new way of living. For example, the last time I went I saw the slums that people make their homes, while the time before that I went to Maasai Mara to see the African big five. Read my recent Kenya 2023 blog to find out what I got up to!

I think that my interest in social issues and development manifested from my trips to Kenya where I saw both poverty, hunger and different ways of living, along with driven and enthusiastic people living their best lives. These experiences have been formative, influencing my own decisions including my BA in Sociology and my MSc in Development Studies.

I have a variety of interests, as will be shared on this website. The most obvious one is writing - over the years, I have published articles, reports and essays for different organisations tackling subjects on education, poverty and gender. I am also an avid reader and gym goer, and I started to learn how to swim this year (I can’t believe I had never learned previously!). As daunting as it was, I am glad that I finally picked it up.

Why I started this website

As mentioned on the main page, I started this website for a few reasons:

  1. To showcase my published work as a professional portfolio which I can then use to further my writing experience (and hopefully start a freelance writing career!).

  2. To start a personal blog where I will publish my own writing on the interests that I have spoken about above.

  3. To display my CV as a way of sharing my skills and experience.

I hope you enjoy what you read as I share what I love and learn.
